Wind energy is not free, is not green, and if pursued will increase utility bills in Kansas.
Kansas Wind Alert advocates an honest assessment of the impact and costs of industrial wind development in Kansas.
Our mission is to provide factual information to elected officials, individuals, landowners, and local groups about the serious, negative consequences of unrestricted industrial wind development. We are a voice raised to counter the false and misleading information spread by the wind industry, their promoters and various environmental groups.
The rapid growth of industrial wind energy has been supported by federal and state policies that, while well intentioned, fail to reflect wind energy's limitations as an energy source, its ineffectiveness in reducing greenhouse emissions, and its negative impacts on our environment, economy and quality of life.
Through manipulation in Congress and state legislatures, special interest lobbyists have created a guaranteed high-return investment program, heavily subsidized by taxpayers and utility rate-payers, to benefit themselves at the expense of the public.
Simply put, at its root, the wind industry is a corporate tax-avoidance scam. It is being marketed to the public and well intentioned, but misled community leaders and politicians as an environmentally friendly "renewable energy" program, which it is not.
Energy security and the need to reduce pollutants and other emissions are serious issues Kansans must face. We should not be distracted by the false promises of intermittent unreliable wind energy. Its pursuit is a "feel-good" gesture that fails to meaningfully address these issues and in fact does substantial harm to our environment, our communities and our pocketbooks.
Will we, as Kansans, be known as those who knew snake oil when it was peddled to us? Or will we be known as victims of manipulation who jumped on the bandwagon of an uneconomic industry based on political correctness and wishful thinking? Will we be known as the generation who industrialized the last of our prairie wild places in the name of green energy?
Kansas Wind Alert is an unpaid grassroots effort; we have no ties to any industry or political party. We are dedicated to Kansas, our communities, our neighbors and our environment.
